… and not only because my boyfriend indulged my sweet tooth as well.

(Though that makes it very sweet, indeed.)
But watch Google’s doodle for today and tell me you don’t feel a thing:
No? I don’t mind if it’s just me. :)
I find myself consistently going back to check his blog. It’s interesting, easy to read, and enjoyable. I find the anger I once held slowly abating. With each post consumed, I find that I like this person more and more, that the parts I found annoying or infuriating or frustrating are mitigated by the inside view I am getting from reading his own words. That in the end, I do appreciate the way he has grown over the years and the other facets that have emerged from his personality.
His identity as my petty and spiteful adversary now takes a backseat to the rest of him. Only rarely in his blog posts do I see hints of the person that I disliked for so long. For the most part, and in many situations, he is not that person anymore. He is not so bad.
No matter how many times I am taught, I find that I am always learning that people are three dimensional. That conflict is complex. That being a jerk to me does not necessarily define that person.

But I guess that’s the way it is. We don’t remember the hurt we inflict on others, but we always remember the hurt inflicted on us.
With Ray the roommate scheduled to move away next summer and Carol — my Via Quadronno partner — leaving in a few months, it feels like time is speeding up and everything feels so… temporary.
I can’t believe I’ll be leaving in just a year and a half as well.
I feel like I just got here.
So: This Is Not Forever. Point taken, underscored, and driven home. I guess I should make better use of this camera…

A giant star hangs above 5th Ave. for the holiday season.

The Rockefeller Center angels and tree.

To your left, Tommy Hilfiger. To your right, Fendi.

Cartier.
Last night, I dragged my boyfriend out with me into the cold to take pictures of the fancy window displays along 5th Ave. because, hey, aren’t we just long-term tourists in the end?
By the time we got back home, my fingers were frozen, but I had a good number of photos and, I don’t know, felt all holiday-y being out with all the lights and music and such. It was nice! The cynical side of me could have complained about the crowds and the commercialism and the branding (impeccable — you’ll see below), but the just-wants-to-be-happy side of me has been overpowering that downer for the last few years now. I guess, ever since I got with Marc.
:)
Below, Bergdorf Goodman’s window displays:

Tiffany’s dressed the outside casings of their windows up to look like parts of a carousel and continued that theme in the microcosm of their displays. Not as coutoure and fantastical as Bergdorf, but very sweet and pretty.

Happy Holidays!
[Sorry for the pathetic lack of updates recently! Turns out travel + being sick + work + laziness =/= disciplined blogging. But it does make for lots of vegging and 'Breaking Bad' time, which, in the immediate sense, is very gratifying. Mmm immediacy... Anyways. Still sick, but trying to regain some semblance of a normal life so here we are!]
About a week ago, Boyfriend and I, with two friends in tow, went to go see Fuerza Bruta: Look Up down by Union Square. We had all heard positive things about the show — check out the yelp reviews! — so were pretty excited to see it in person. Roommate Ray was saying it was really cool, but couldn’t seem to be able to provide description beyond that.
Now that I’ve seen the show, I find myself in the same position.
It was really cool. But it’s hard to talk about it without giving away everything that happens. I’ll say this: I LOVED it and would HIGHLY recommend it. Exclamation point!

As you can see it’s pretty artsy, with a heavy emphasis on the visual (and auditory) experience.

I wasn’t able to take photos of some of the really fun scenes because I was too busy enjoying them…

…but I was able to capture this one part! It starts off with four women dancing/swimming/embracing in a shallow pool of water above the audience’s heads.

Then they fan out as the clear tarp on which they’re laying gets lowered closer and closer toward the audience…

…until they’re so close you can reach up and touch them!
There were a lot of other cool things that happened during the show, but it’s something that you really need to see/experience for yourself! Also, the New York show always seems to be on sale (we actually got our tickets for free) or you can wait for half-off standby tickets so there’s rarely a need to pay the full box office price. To sum up —
DO go see this show if:
• You like artsy/symbolic shows
• You like dancing
• You can carpe diem (the end of the show is a big dance party in the ‘rain’ and all four of us went for it and had SO MUCH fun! :D)
DON’T go see this show if:
• You hate strobe lights
• You are expecting a play-type show with dialogue and clearly delineated acts
• You are wearing a neck brace (duh)
