Something I’m Always in the Mood For

French Toast.

Ever since Venus in Berkeley did a marscarpone + ricotta stuffed french toast, I have reached a new enlightenment.  French toast injected with Italian cheeses is now my apex for all sweet brunch dishes.  Like Fall to seasons.  Like Saks to shopping.  Like Blizzard to — nevermind.

So, predictably, I as soon as I sat down at Ze Cafe I ordered the Banana & Marscarpone Stuffed French Toast, my eyes only briefly flitting around the menu beforehand.  But, let’s be honest, like an insecure man, the other options just did not attract me.

My beautiful little button of a french toast arrived fried to a warm golden brown with crème fraiche dripping off the side.  Slicing into it with my fork, I quickly realized that this was a croissant french toast.  Ohhh yes.

Though the soft, smushy union of banana and marscarpone enveloped inside my fried croissant was, admittedly, really really good, I think I still prefer Venus’ two cheese, almond-infused version.  The apex.
